The thief-guild... Many people think of it as a place where dark creatures lurk around, shadows without feelings that live from what they take of others...

I used to think the same way... before turning into a thief myself and eventually even becoming their leader...

"Meeting is over, Mairitti... You can wake up again!" Shou's voice reached my ears while something softly shook my shoulder...

"That won't work on her!" Suddenly something kicked the chair I was sitting on, causing me to fall flat on the floor.

"Mh?" Blinking I stared up at the other two guild-masters... "Ira, go to hell..." I stretched my limbs off my body before getting up from the marble-floor. "Hmmmm... the empress gone already?" I rubbed my eyes still sleep dazed while looking over at the guys.

"In contrary to you, she's got other responsibilities." Ira snorted in his usual teasing voice... a game I was willing to play with him.

"Well, I had a wonderful nap, being ready to empty someone's treasure-chamber... How about your guild's one?" I grinned sheepishly while blinking on him with the brightest eyes I could effort in my sleepy state.

"I don't think so." The warrior grunted, coming closer, hands on his giant broad-sword. "You got work to do anyway. While you were asleep we decided that from now on the thief-guild has to take care of aaaaaaall the work!" He smiled meanly, leaning forward a little closer to my face awaiting my answer on that... Thinking for a second I closed my eyes, starting to chuckle.

"Well, I'm alright with that!" My innocent face switched to a mean grimace... I loved playing with my face-expression...

"Huh? W-why?" The purple haired man stared at me, caught off-guard for a second before regaining his composure.

"Well, if we do all the work, we gain all the money! Thanks a lot, Ira!" I chirped, running out the room.

"NO WAY! WAIT!" The warrior shouted, rushing after me.

Shou just stared after us, chuckling... "Interesting!"

Outside the palace, Bastien, Hasse and Maartin waited for the meeting to end finally... Stopping on the top of the stairs, I turned around, wanting to say good-bye to the guild-masters of the warriors and magicians.

"..." One of the palace-guards stared at me with angry eyes, watching every movement I made... Out of fun I started walking around in circles, watching the man following me with his gaze whatever I made. Chuckling I hopped up and down, watching his head following.

"If I ever needed proof that you are crazy, now I got it." Ira stated, followed by Shou.

"Well, I can't help it. I'm a dirty thief that brings back souvenirs from the palace whenever she visits... once a week..." Laughing I ran over to the two men giving Shou a hug in good-bye before glomping Ira for fun.

"G-get off!!" He barked, flapping his wings to get rid of me...

"I wish you a pleasant journey back." Shou smiled and waved in good-bye before joining Hasse and leaving for Pranas.

"Hmpf...!" Ira just turned towards Maartin, ignoring me and the other's completely. "Come on, let's go. It's getting too heart-warming and cheesy here for me!"

Laughing, I ran down to Bastien who was carrying my traveling-bags.

"Hope you didn't have to wait too long?" I asked politely while taking my stuff off his shoulders.

"Regarding the fact you can't tell yourself how long the meeting was I'd assume you napped away again?" He stared at me with no expression at all. The monotone voice and the face made me laugh out loud. Bull's eye...

"Hehehehe..."

"I knew it..." Rolling his eyes, he took his own traveling-bag off the ground, starting to walk towards the city-gates.

The 2 hour trip through the forest to get to the Thief-guild went without any complications... which was usual since most bandits in the area knew who we were, avoiding us by any possible cost... Only once in a while a newbie was stupid enough daring to attack my body-guard... As long as Bastien was around, I could lean back, having nothing to do at all...

As we finally reached the thief-guild, the door swung open, Sai coming out, happily, running up to me and jumping into my arms.

"Sis!" He chirped happily while cuddling his head against my chest... until he noticed what he was doing. Jumping back with a head that was best described as a tomato with hair... "So-sorry! Sorry! Sorry!!" He bowed a few times, his head still crimson-colored.

"Hehehe, is everything alright? Anything special happened while I was away?" I smiled, patting the blonde, stealing his hat and running off into the guild, followed by him.

"What a kindergarten..." Bastien sighed, bringing the bags in.

"Gimme back my hat!" The boy shouted while chasing after me.

"You gotta be faster then!" I laughed, not watching where I was running. Suddenly I bumped into someone, falling right on him...

"Uff... what a greeting..." Karu gasped, lying on the ground.

"Urgh... Why didn't you just get out of the way?!" I barked at the ViceMaster, getting up and looking around. Papers lay all around us... looked like work... "What is tha--"

"Ha, I got my hat back!" Sai chirped, taking the hat off me, running off as fast as he could to avoid me following.

"Ugh..." Shaking my head I looked back at Karu who was picking up the dropped paperwork. "Now, what exactly is that?"

"I sorted the papers. Your work is in your office, the rest will be handled by Bastien and me..." He sighed, looking at the mess. "By the way, am I allowed to borrow myself some of the guild-members this  and tomorrow evening?"

"Huh? What do you need them for?" I blinked confused, patting the dust off my cloths.

"Well, let's call it a... personal quest..." He grinned, giving me a list with guild-members that were free this evening. "Is it alright if I take Katwok, Maiz and Ryuu."

"Hm, I don't think I will need them this evening... sure, go ahead!" I blinked, continuing my way to the office.

It was after 5 pm already so I had to hurry up a little to get my papers done. I didn't feel like working longer than 10 pm today...

As I worked myself through the reports I couldn't help but feeling thankful that it was sorted already... I hated sorting paperwork on my own...

"Mai!" Sai came running into the room, a tablet in hand. He carried in a bowl of soup, a cane with water and a plate with fried chicken and noodles... "I brought you dinner, Sis!!" He placed the tablet on my desk, sitting down next to me, awaiting me to try it...

"How late is it?" I asked before taking up the spoon, moving it through the soup.

"You missed dinner. It's 8 pm already!" He smiled, staring at me with bright eyes.

"Hmm..." I frowned... Seems I forgot the time again while working... Taking a sip from the soup, I looked over at the blonde, smiling softly. "Tastes great, tell the cook it is awesome!" I grinned, knowing way too well that it was Sai's turn cooking this evening...

Smiling as bright as the sun, he hopped up, running out again...

"Alright,... back to work..." I sighed, reading through some more reports while eating my dinner.

If someone had told me how much paper-work had to be done when being a Guild-Master I would have declined the position probably, back when they offered me the spot of the old Master...

Sighing at the thought, I sipped on a cup of tea while going through the morning-reports...

"Sis! Sis!" The blonde boy came running into my office, waving his arms excitedly.

"What is it, Sai?" I asked with a smile.

"You gotta tell Bastien that he is WRONG!" He flapped his arms, his unusual hat flying around with the movements. "He said I am too young to do the same jobs he does!!" He looked at me with his giant eyes, making it hard to tell him the truth, but it had to be done...

"Sorry Sai, but he is right. You gotta wait a little longer for that..." I smiled innocently. Bastien was a great fighter, being able to take on quests all on his own without the slightest problem... Sai was more of the... running into trouble, turning 180 degree and running for his life type...

"B-but..."

"Told you, brat..." Bastien's monotone voice reached my ears. I looked up towards the door, seeing the blue haired man standing in the doorframe. Chuckling I patted Sai.

"It is alright, being a leading officer in your age is a giant honor though!" I tried to cheer the boy up a little until Bastien...

"You only are because you are the GuildMaster's pet..." Rolling his eyes, he left, leaving me and Sai behind.

"I-I'm not a pet..." Sai stuttered before regaining his senses and chasing after the other leading officer.

"Hehehe..." I chuckled before returning to the last few papers left to finish...

"GuildMaster!"

"Master Mairitti!"

"Mairitti-samaaaaa!!"

"..." I frowned, taking a side-step to avoid Larchxas hugging me... "What's wrong guys?" I stood on the door-frame to my private chambers, staring at the people crowding in front of my office.

"We finished the mission you sent us to!" Rinni chirped, handing me over... more paperwork...

"That's great... How did it go?" I smiled, taking the evil report, looking behind me to assure Larchie wasn't trying anything stupid... However as long as Rinni was around, I didn't really have to worry...

"We followed the map of yours, went to the desert, found the ruins, beat up some desert-thieves and brought back the treasure!" She grinned successfully, placing her hands on her hips. "Brought the treasure to Vice Karu already. He will add the money to the guild-funds!"

"Good work everyone!" I smiled, looking through the papers. "If you want, take the rest of the day free. You did a great job there!"

"Alright!!" Larchie hopped up, running down the corridor towards the exit, leaving Rinni, Atticus, Alma and me behind...

"I will get on my way then as well." Bowing slightly, Atticus left, followed by Alma.

"Phew..." Looking through the papers again I noticed Rinni was still staring at me... "Something left?"

"..." She kept staring at me, making me feel uncomfortable.

"W-want to have a drink and cookies with me?" I smiled, offering her the way inside my room.

"Yes!!" Nodding happily, she walked in, looking around as if my room was a giant treasure-chamber...

"So, what do you want to drink?" I sighed and went over towards the side-board, looking inside... I rarely ever let anyone in my private room behind my office... It was my private space I disliked letting people just running in and out, that's what I had my office for after all... "I guess this is your first time seeing my room?" I smiled, turning around to see Rinni running from one corner to the next, staring at my furniture...

"Master Mairitti, what is this for?" She pointed at a collection of gem-stones lying on a small table on the side.

"Uhm, that's just a set of enchantment-runes to strengthen weapons, that I--"

"And what is this?" She hopped up my book-case (that wasn't filled with books but with all other kind of things...) taking out map of an island in the west of Titania.

"Th-thats a map from the island I'm coming from." I tried to smile but it turned out more as a grimace...

"Oh, really? Awesome! I know where Master Mairitti comes from!" She chirped, running over to my bed, staring at a picture of Sai and me when we were younger. "Awwwww... Sai was so cute as boy! How old is he there?"

"12 and--"

"Is he really your brother? I mean, he is not an elf as you are... right?" She looked at me with bright eyes, running up to me again, awaiting an answer.

"N-no, I found him in Veleni and taught him the ways of thievery." This girl was so strange... With a smile I offered her a glass of orange-juice and a plate with sweets.

Sitting with the orange-haired girl on the table for about an hour, we talked about how she decided joining the thief-guild and what quests she was working on recently...

As it was time for me to get back to work, so I said good-bye to Rinni and closed the door behind her, sitting down in my office...

It was my privilege as the GuildMaster to have a giant office and room for myself, but it also meant living in the middle of my work...

Letting myself fall forward on the desk I thought about just bringing all the work over to Karu and letting him do it for me... The thought played around in my head again and again... and grew more attracting with every time I stared at my papers...

Packing together my work I rushed over to Karu's office, kicking the door open -my arms were full with paper-work after all...

"Karu? Where is that guy...!?" I frowned, turning around, seeing Sai standing behind me...

"Master Karu left for his house with three of the guild-members about an hour ago!" The blonde smiled happily before grabbing his hat tightly just in case I got weird ideas...

"Hmmm..." I looked down at the work and decided... it was worth the trip!!

After 20 minutes of walking the small house Karu had started building for himself 2 years ago came into view...

It was a small house in the midst of the forest but it had charm... I smiled, walking a little faster towards the entrance. I wanted to knock on the door as I heard voices coming from behind the house...

"Looking great indeed!" Karu brought out a bottle of sake, giving everyone a glass full of it.

"..." I stood next to the house without the four men noticing me, staring at the garden... Last time I visited here, there was just a veranda and a few bushes, but now, there was a small pond with a waterfall, a way led over into the garden and the bushes within the garden were gone, only those, close to the fence were left.

"Hehe, we did a good job I guess!" Maiz took a sip, looking at their work.

"So this is what you consider a personal quest, huh?" I smiled, standing on the side.

Looking over at me a little surprised about my appearance, Katwok, Maiz and Ryuu packed their stuff, preparing to get back to the guild.

"Well, I asked for your permission, it was you who didn't give me any further questions about it..." The man smiled offering me a glass of sake even though he knew I didn't drink...

Frowning, I rejected, placing the paperwork on the veranda before sitting down, looking at their work.

"It looks nice."

"Yeah, I wanted the garden to be fixed before summer so I just needed a few hands to help me..." He smiled, sitting down and going through the papers...

"Well, guess I will leave you alone with your work then." I grinned, both of us knowing that is fact it was MY work...

"Hehe, I will bring them to your office first thing tomorrow morning." He took another glass of sake, going to work.

Back in the guild it was time for dinner... This was my first free evening for two weeks... so I decided I wanted to spent it in a way that I rarely ever managed to: Going to bed at 9 pm, finally getting some sleep...

The thief-guild... Many people think of it as a place where dark creatures lurk around, shadows without feelings that live from what they take of others... For me and many others, it is our beloved home.

It was very well written, much like your other stories, but I have to ask, what happened to the users that 'own' or 'created' Alma, Ryuu, and Karu? Their accounts are deactivated, but, I have a feeling that they're still on dA somewhere. Sorry if this is intruding, but I'm curious to see what they are up to and capable of. I want to see their art if they are still around.
